Killing time

I'm done with summer school now so basically I have nothing to day every day until 3 pm. When I'm bored in class I usually end up sketching comics involving two dogs talking about how much they hate school. It often ends with them smashing things or getting drunk. I decided to do a real version of one of the funnier ones. Not my best work, but it is fun to do. Here are some panel sample panels.

The one with the collar is Doug, and the other is Mitch. They hate classes and love PBR.

Not that anyone is reading this, but...

I've been working on some stuff lately. Haven't had much creative opportunity at WMU, but I'm finishing up at KVCC this semester so hopefully more projects to come. This is an ad I did for my final advertising project. I stole the Orbit letters because I couldn't find the font.

and here is a rough creative analysis:

The colors for the ad were chosen because they are a visual representation of the box of Orbit’s most popular flavor, spearmint. Also, green is perceived as healthy, rich, and natural in our culture which made it an obvious choice to use when positioning Orbit as a healthy gum. The background of the ad was given the illusion of water in order coincide with the nature-like aspect of green. The check mark makes the ad seem official, and gives it a sense of authority by inciting thoughts of a dentist with a clipboard. To attract the viewer’s eye, red was chosen for the check mark in order to make it stand out from the dull colors of the background. Red is also seen as a healthy color (i.e. Red Cross, Ambulances, etc). The ADA logo was placed near the bottom in order to add to the credibility of the advertisement. The ad was designed with a full bleed in order to be placed on the back cover of a magazine as illustrated in the media plan. The copy chosen was brief, but to the point. The all caps, serif font was used because it gives the ad a sense of seriousness, but does not make the consumer as if they are being yelled at.

And this is just a quick image I made up to be a backdrop of another project. Its going to be a cheat sheet for my marketing research class, and we were instructed to make good use of color so I am making mine pink and red. I think I will throw some hearts in there too, just to confuse the hell out of my professor.

Coffee Card-ish

This was the original coffee card I made for Irving's in February. Today they told me it needs more beans (punch holes) I wonder if they are gonna pay me for this...

New titles, same old stuff

I was gonna post some business card or something that I made but I decided to put these up instead. I drew them in sociology at Ball State. Enjoy!

#6

I've never worked on this for more than 8-10 minutes at a time so naturally it has been kickin around for a while. I don't know what it is, I don't know what it means. With that being said, here is the process.

I drew this on some tracing paper about a year ago

Scanned it in with photoshop and tracing the lines by hand with Illustrator. This was before I had the tablet so I had to do it with the mouse. It sucked.

Played around with color and whatnot. I did not have anything in mind when I drawing it so I just went with whatever looked good first as I tend to do. It's "jaw" thing has a pretty cool glass look in my biased opinion.

Here's something of a product. I call it "acid bird's vacation to hell"

Hurry up and wait

This is a newsletter I made for page layout in April. I wish I still had the design analysis because it was more of an anti-capitalist manifesto, but my teacher must have liked it because I still got an A. This is probably the most worthwhile thing I've ever made with InDesign.

The fist is my own and was taken by holding my hand up to an iMac in class. Pretty crafty I think.

Impact came from the Against Me song of the same name.

I think the back cover would be a sweet spray paint stencil or sticker
